A Toast to the Past
Saturday, August 23 | 5:00–7:00 PM
Join us and our event sponsors, Plymouth Bay Winery and Cape Cod Beer, as we raise a glass to 200 years of glassmaking history at the Sandwich Glass Museum’s special bicentennial event, Toast to the Past. This lively evening offers guests a unique opportunity to explore the museum after hours, listen to a solo baroque cello performance, chat with local glass historians stationed throughout the galleries, and bring or purchase your own commemorative glass in order to toast 200 years of glassmaking in Sandwich!
Please note that commemorative glassware is sold separately from the event admission ticket.

Cellist Phoebe Carrai
Cellist Phoebe Carrai will be performing a 30 minute concert of cello music in the Hirschmann Theater at the Sandwich Glass Museum as part of our "Toast to the Past".
Carrai, a part-time resident of Sandwich, is currently on the faculty of the Julliard School in NYC and the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA, and is the director of Harvard University’s Harvard Baroque Chamber Orchestra. She has recorded three solo recordings, and has held multiple prestigious academic posts in Europe.
As you journey through two centuries of Sandwich’s iconic glass legacy, you'll uncover the fascinating stories behind its most cherished pieces and the enduring influence of the Boston & Sandwich Glass Company on the Town of Sandwich and Cape Cod at large.
Along the way, enjoy tastings of Cape Cod’s finest libations: wine, beer, and spirits - ideally served in your own SGM glassware (!). We will be offering for purchase not only reproduction glassware but also our limited edition Bicentennial "Thumper" glass, designed by artist David McDermott. Modeled after the traditional New England tavern glass of the early 1800s, this collectible piece is both a nod to our past and a toast to our future.
From Nina Sutton’s jewelry made with authentic Sandwich Glass shards to contemporary glassblowing studios thriving across the Cape, the legacy of Sandwich glass lives on... and you can take a piece of it home! Shop recreations of famous historical pieces and other glass treasures available for sale during the event.
Celebrate where we’ve been, what we’ve built, and what still lies ahead. Join us as we Toast to the Past - a festive, meaningful evening steeped in local craftsmanship, community, and history.
Please note that commemorative glassware is sold separately from the event admission ticket.
