Position Summary

The Museum Shop Associate is an important part of the visitor experience at the Sandwich Glass Museum. The Associate welcomes visitors, provides excellent customer service, assists with purchases, and helps keep the Museum Shop organized, attractive, and well stocked.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people and has an interest in art, glass, local makers, and unique merchandise. The Museum Shop Associate works closely with the Shop Manager and other members of the retail team to provide a friendly and enjoyable shopping experience for Museum visitors.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome visitors and provide friendly, helpful customer service.
  • Assist customers in finding merchandise and making selections.
  • Learn about the Museum's merchandise, including glass, gifts, local artist products, and seasonal offerings.
  • Operate the Museum Shop point-of-sale system and process purchases accurately.
  • Handle cash, credit card, and other transactions responsibly.
  • Assist with opening and closing the Shop as directed.
  • Keep the Shop neat, clean, organized, and inviting.
  • Restock merchandise and maintain attractive displays.
  • Assist with receiving, unpacking, pricing, tagging, and displaying new merchandise.
  • Package customer purchases carefully.
  • Let the Shop Manager know when merchandise needs to be restocked or when inventory or display issues arise.
  • Assist with seasonal promotions, special sales, Museum events, and other Shop activities.
  • Follow Museum and Shop procedures for sales, customer service, cash handling, and security.

  • Work cooperatively with other Shop Associates, the Assistant Manager, and Shop Manager.
  • Help create a welcoming experience that reflects the quality and character of the Sandwich Glass Museum.

Qualifications

  • Previous retail, sales, hospitality, or customer service experience is helpful but not required.
  • Enjoys working with people and providing excellent customer service.
  • Friendly, dependable, and professional.
  • Comfortable learning and using a point-of-sale system.
  • Able to handle cash and transactions accurately.
  • Organized and attentive to detail.
  • Comfortable standing and moving around the Shop during a shift.
  • Able to work independently while also being a supportive member of the Shop team.
  • Interest in art, glass, museums, local artists, or distinctive gift merchandise is a plus.

Schedule

This is a part-time position, approximately 2–3 days per week. The schedule may include weekdays, weekends, holidays, and additional hours during special events and busy seasonal periods.
