Oakridge School Field Trip June 2025

The Sandwich Glass Museum fired up learning and fun this week hosting over 130 third graders from Oak Ridge Elementary. As part of their annual field trip to explore Sandwich history, the students got a hands-on look at how Deming Jarves helped spark the Industrial Revolution on Cape Cod 200 years ago—and why Sandwich glass is such a big deal.

They watched an awesome glassblowing demo by our very own Peter Waechter, and their teachers even got in on the action, helping Peter make a suncatcher using an original 1800s glass press.

Next up: the Discover GlassRoom, where the kids held real tools and made their own pressed glass (well, clay) pieces. They wrapped up their visit with a treasure hunt for hidden gems of historic glass throughout the museum.

Such a fun week for our third graders—and a great time for our staff and volunteers too!
