Come to the Sandwich Glass Museum for your own personalized “Glassblowing Experience”!
Create a blown glass ornament or a sculpted paperweight with the assistance of our experienced Glass Blowers.
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to work with molten glass in a hot shop?
The Glassblowing Experience at the Sandwich Glass Museum gives you the chance to step into the studio and try it for yourself.
In this guided, hands-on experience, you’ll work alongside one of our professional glassblowers and help shape molten glass into either a keepsake paperweight or ornament. This experience is great for beginners and requires no prior experience.
This program is designed to give participants a taste of what it’s like to work with hot glass, rather than to teach formal glassblowing techniques. Our instructors will handle the more technical steps while guiding you through the process so you can safely participate and enjoy the experience.
Pricing
- $150 – One participant
- $275 – Two participants
- $400 – Three participants
Sessions accommodate 1–3 participants.
Who Can Attend
Participants must be at least 12 years old to enter the studio and work with molten glass.
Children 11 and under are welcome to observe from the viewing area but must be accompanied by an adult who supervises them from behind the studio barrier.
If you have mobility, dexterity, or vision concerns, please contact the studio in advance so we can discuss possible accommodations.
What to Expect
During your session you will sit beside the furnace while a professional glassblower guides you through each step of creating your piece. You’ll assist with shaping the molten glass and experience the heat, tools, and teamwork involved in working in a hot shop.
Because glassblowing requires years of training, our instructors perform the most technical steps while you participate in the process and help shape your piece.
Your finished object must cool slowly overnight in a kiln (annealing). It can be picked up the following day, or shipped for an additional fee.
Sessions begin promptly at the scheduled time.
What to Wear
You will be working near very hot glass and equipment, so appropriate clothing is required.
Please wear:
- Closed-toe shoes (no sandals or flip-flops)
- Long pants and socks
- Long-sleeve shirt made of natural fibers such as cotton (avoid synthetics)
- Long hair tied back
Helpful but optional:
