Development Director (Contractor)

The Development Director oversees all of the organization’s fundraising and manages relationships with internal and external financial partners. Duties include planning fundraising events, interacting with former donors to encourage ongoing contributions, building new donor pools and seeking out opportunities for financial support through grants and sponsorships.

The Development Director (DD) will work with the Senior Management Team to create and implement the fundraising strategic plan. The DD will maximize the visibility and economic sustainability of the Sandwich Historical Society and Glass Museum by increasing public engagement through donor CRM data and will work with the Executive Director and other marketing team to plan and promote events for educational and fundraising purposes.

Responsibilities of Development Director:

A Development Director works closely with a variety of employees, sponsors and donors. They often have the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Donors
    • Work with Executive Director and marketing team to build consensus on development strategies within guidelines of strategic plan 
    • Use sales and spending cycles to guide fundraising campaign decisions
    • Find ideal donors from public and private investors
    • Create a respectful reputation for the company or nonprofit they represent by being active in the local community and glass collectors’ community 
    • Construct reports to convey their strategies and needs
    • Use Salesforce CRM to build new donor relationships while maintaining ongoing ones
    • Work with Grant team to build content to earn grants, new audiences and better relationships with donors and other corporations

  • Sponsors and Community Engagement 
    • Research appropriate sponsors and other financial partners to fund events and other public facing developmental projects
    • Keep information and engagement current with local chambers along with other community influencers and potential sponsors 
    • Identify target audiences and develop initiatives to attract diverse groups of visitors including local communities, tourists, schools, children and art enthusiasts
    • Work with marketing team to provide needed images, info and meet deadlines
    • Participate in ongoing strategic planning and execution of the expanded education program and any other new initiatives launched by the museum 
    • Coordinate with Events Committee and support internal and external events including donor specific events 
    • Develop plan for distribute semi-annual Cullet Magazine to donors and potential donors
    • Provide monthly updates to the Executive Board

    Additional Information:

    • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for donor events or special activities.
    • Travel may be required for donor meetings or site visits.
