3pm Virtual Walking Tour

At 3pm, join our own Scott Floeck, town history enthusiast and board member, in the Museum's Hirschmann Theater for a virtual historic house walking tour through Sandwich Village to the factory site. The walking tour has been moved indoors due to forecasted heavy rain.

Reenactment of Historic Moment
of the breaking of ground for the historic Boston and Sandwich Glass Company factory buildings. Join our founder Deming Jarvis (played by John Kennan), President James Monroe, the Kellaher Sisters, and more historic characters as they reenact the groundbreaking ceremony in the Hirschmann Theater.

Don't forget to dress up in your very best 19th century finery so you will blend in with the crowd!

Once the show in the Theater is over, the party can really get started!

1825 Groundbreaking Historical Reenactment

Post re-enactment festivities will include:

  • Executive Director Mary Childs speaking to the Glass Museum’s mission of
    “Illuminating the Past, Sparking the Future"
  • Auctioning the art piece "Red Obsidian" by Sandwich glass artist Yukimi Matsumoto. This is the piece she made live at the "Women in Glassmaking History" event at the Museum on March 7th
  • LIVE Glass Blowing Demonstration with Kate Thomas
  • Music, Food, Refreshments
  • Themed “selfie” booth
  • Limited edition handmade Bicentennial Commemorative Glass in the style of 1820’s Tavern Glassware available for purchase
  • Interact with and learn from local actors in period clothing who represent the citizens of Sandwich from times past!

There is plenty of parking in front of the museum, with overflow parking across Main Street on Grove St. near the Old Town Hall, and additional overflow parking across the street from the Sandwich Public Library.

1800s era costumes are encouraged (and are very fun!) but not required.
