Ages: 6-10
Start times: There are two sessions, morning and afternoon. The a.m. session is 10-noon, and p.m. is 1-3. The same content will be offered at both sessions.
Pre-work: Students are asked to bring in design drawings of an object that the student would like to see made in glass
Schedule:
- Start in Discover GlassRoom
- Introduction to glass art - review components of glass material and what it takes to transform raw ingredients into glass
- Introduce various tools, safety equipment and process for glass making
- Have students wear safety equipment and work with tools in simulated hot shop
- Move to hot glass shop to demonstrate live glass blowing techniques
- Richard to make a piece from one of the pictures
Parents who wish to accompany their child are requested to purchase a separate museum admission for themselves. Once class is out you have the option taking your student on the SGM Scavenger Hunt while waiting for Richard's 4pm talk and live demo of glassmaking in our hot shop (the glassblowing demonstration area).
Richard will not only be demonstrating his virtuosity in glassblowing at 4pm, he will be the guest artist at an evening reception on Wednesday April 23rd at 5pm. More info at https://sandwichglassmuseum.org/pages/young-glass-makers-workshops
