The Sandwich Historical Society is pleased to present a series of unique and beautiful traditional holiday ornaments such as would have graced the Christmas trees of Sandwich Village residents in the 1800s.
Sandwich Glass Museum's talented demo artist, Kate Thomas, has created this delightful holiday ornament, a unique take on the traditional "Witch Ball". Witch balls originated in 17th- and 18th-century England, where they were hung in cottage windows to protect against evil spirits, witches, and bad luck. The tradition spread to British colonies like New England, and would undoubtedly have graced the windows of nineteenth century Sandwich Village homes.Â
Created on site by SGM Studio's own Kate Thomas.
Measures approximately 4" in diameter.Â
Each piece has been lovingly handcrafted so size may vary.
